The Manor House at Avalon Village is at the center of community life. Situated 110 feet above the Penobscot River, the setting for the beautiful 1939 tudor-style mansion features one of the oldest stands of pines in the Pine Tree State. The majestic trees, the stately building, and the breathtaking views of the Penobscot are a welcome site at any time of year for residents and visitors alike. The Manor House is the perfect setting for weddings, parties, social activities, meetings, and fine dining year round.
The Manor House is easily reserved by residents for private gatherings. Because of its elegance and beautiful setting, the Manor House is the perfect place to hold reunions, weddings, club meetings, bridge parties, and celebrations of all kinds — whenever the occasion calls for that certain quality that only the Manor House offers.
Public events are held at the Manor House as well. At a recent Hampden Highlanders quilt exhibit, quilts were displayed in the grand foyer, living room, dining room, and upper living room areas, providing unique galleries for the many attendees who came to appreciate the artistry and craftmanship.
Rich woodwork provides a cozy setting in the basement where our Dyer’s Down Under Pub is located. This is a very popular place where residents and friends gather to play pool, poker, board games, puzzles and the occasional game of darts. The grand main living room is the perfect space to hold meetings and parties for small and large groups. If music is desired, the baby grand piano is always available. Two beautiful adjacent dining rooms seat up to 30 people, and feature breathtaking views of the Penobscot River, a stone fireplace, and wall mural of 19th Century Bangor painted by the former owner of the Dyer mansion.
In the upper living room at the Manor House, one finds an inviting space for more socializing, exercising, reading, and relaxing. French doors open to a balcony with spectacular views of the Penobscot River from high above. Friends often gather to play bridge, favorite board games, or to visit over a cup of coffee while hands are busy with needlepoint and yarn.
Walking trails and peaceful lanes that extend for more than a mile, connect the Manor House to the Penobscot River bank, the pine forest, the Edythe L. Dyer Community Library, and the village neighborhood. The trails are ideal for walking with canine friends. An Avalon pooch is a happy pooch, indeed! Whether one has the motivation of walking the dog, bird watching or otherwise experiencing the great outdoors, the beautiful trails and lanes that extend from the Manor House provide plenty of reasons to get outside and enjoy Avalon’s 60 acres at any time of year.
